8.5 : Article

The article is sort of your Swiss Army knife of content types. It allows you to combine words and images together, but its large variety of display modes allows you to choose several different ways in which those words and images are displayed to the end user.

 Display Modes

The exact same article can appear in many different ways if you choose a different display mode at the time you place the article into the page.  By using the Short Summary as a teaser text to hook the reader, and a thumbnail image to accompany the teaser, you can use an article as a Large Feature or Small Feature.

In addition to inserting images inside the body of the article, you can also attach images to an article to be used when the article is displayed in different modes. When associating images with articles, choose images according to how you want to display the article:

  • A large image would be used for the billboard display area, such that the image stands alone (without text) and links to the full article. This image should be a maximum of 570 pixels wide.
  • A medium image is needed for the “large feature” display at the top of the homepage with the purple shaded background. This image must be a maximum of 242 pixels wide (and 155 pixels high). (You can resize images to this exact size with the Resize tool in the Asset Library.)
  • A small image is needed for a “small feature” display of an article. This image must be a maximum of 124 pixels wide (and 69 pixels high). (You can resize images to this exact size with the Resize tool in the Asset Library.)

Note that some display modes are only possible for an article if the proper image size is selected. For instance, if you wish to display an article in the homepage billboard, you'll need to have associated a large image with the article in order for the system to allow you to insert the article in that content area.
