6.1 : Creating Navigation

Naming nav buttons and creating index pages

The navigation in the S-Web system is driven by pages. The presence and position of the pages in relation to the homepage determines their appearance in the navigation structure.

You can edit the navigation properties of a given page by going to a page's Draft View and editing the page properties of existing page, or when creating a new page, by specifying the desired navigation in the page creation dialog.

To create a new top-level navigation item:
1. When on your site’s homepage, click on Edit Page (unless already in edit mode) and click “Add Page”
2. Create the section’s index page by entering information in the page properties dialogue box. Enter the navigation title that you want to use for the nav item.
3. Choose the Navigation Area(s) where you want this item to appear (header, horizontal, vertical, and/or footer). You can pick more than one, though this is not advised as it is often confusing to visitors.

To create sub-nav item in either the horizontal or vertical navigation areas:
1. Click on an existing nav item while in the View Draft mode to navigate to the page you wish to be the parent of the new page you are creating.
2. Click “Add Page” to create the sub-section’s index page.
3. In the page properties dialogue box, the name of the existing section will appear in the “Parent” field. Enter the navigation title you want to use for the sub-nav item.
4. Choose the same navigation area as the parent in order to make this new page appear under the parent page. For instance, if your parent page is in the horizontal navigation, check horizontal navigation for the new child page as well.
