Firefox 3 and SWEB

Of late the question has been coming into the Support desk as to whether or not SWEB will support Firefox 3 or the coming Internet Explorer 8.

As with all new browsers, we need to perform a formal testing and validation process in order to know exactly what to expect with the new browsers. Sadly, we don't get pre-release versions for testing any sooner than they are available live to the public, so some testing is still needed. We’re working on getting the plan in place to complete this and working with SEIU International to move forward on it.

In our own initial tests and from some reports from folks who downloaded FF3 the moment it was available, we know that there were some issues with its handling of some S-Web functions, specifically regarding inserting content into a page. However, our developers were able to put a fix in place for the content selector menus.

Nevertheless, as of this writing the current version of FF3 is only a Release Candidate. It's not the final release. Therefore, if you do intend to test it on your own, we would strongly recommend installing FF3 on a system that isn’t your primary machine. By doing this, if it causes a bunch of issues for you, at least you won’t need to roll-back your main system.

Watch this space for further updates on this issue.

I like using Firefox 3 as well and was just having trouble inserting pictures about an hour ago and then I went to the blog and saw this posting. Thanks for the update!

Thanks guys, keep me posted. Firefox 3 has some neat features and I'd like to put it on my primary machine!
